Katie Whiticar
Maui-based dancer and choreographer
Katie Whiticar is a resident artist with Adaptations Dance Theater (ADT), with whom she has performed since 2016.
Katie grew up training at Maui Academy of Performing Arts (MAPA) before moving to Los Angeles, where she earned her B.A. in Dance as a scholarship recipient from California State University Long Beach. She received additional training and professional development from San Francisco Conservatory of Dance, Movement Invention Project New York, and Orsolina28 Italy. Katie has performed in New York, California, Utah, New Mexico, and Hawaii with dance companies including Rebecca Lemme|Acts of Matter, Keith Johnson/Dancers, Kathleen Helm & Dancers, and Rosy Simas Danse.
Since moving back to Maui from Los Angeles in 2018, Katie has had the pleasure of performing in works by FLOCK, Charlotte Griffin, Hallie Hunt, Ali McKeon-Pineo, Nathaniel Hunt, and others. She has also appeared in projects across Maui including Dance Maui, Live @ the MACC, Small Town Big Art, Maui Art Corp projects, ArT=Mixx, and RARE residency at the MACC.
Her choreographic work includes 0.0 Series, an immersive pop-up event she co-produced in Long Beach, ArT=Mixx at the MACC, and two SEED Residencies—a dance film residency and a process-focused residency centered on creation. Most recently, she was selected as a choreographer for ADT’s Bring it Home Concert.
Katie is inspired by choreographic processes that are both intricate and immersive, exploring new ideas that challenge performers and engage audiences. Through this work, she aims to expand how dance is experienced and create spaces for meaningful artistic exchange.
